DAMPING OF FINITE AMPLITUDE SOLITARY WAVES IN A FLUME

چکیده
Solitary wave is a permanent when the dissipation ignored. Many analytical solutions have been developed for finite amplitude solitary waves. In additional to perturbation solutions, closed form are also available (e.g., McCowan 1891, Clamond and Fructus 2003, being denoted as CF from hereon), which more accuracy, especially larger waves were discussed in Wang Liu (2022). (2022) ’s laboratory experiments, slowly damped along flume, can be attributed energy inside boundary layers on bottom sidewalls. Keulegan (1948) first derived an approximate solution describe damping flume small wave. The basic idea of calculating effect that rate must same loss. this work, principle balance adopted flume. provided employed here analyses.

Damping of large-amplitude solitary waves
Soliton damping in weakly dissipative media has been studied for several decades, usually using the asymptotic theory of the slowly-varying solitary wave solution of the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation. Damping then occurs according to the energy balance equation, and a shelf is generated behind the soliton. Various examples of this process have been given by Ott & Sudan (1970) Pelinovsky (197...
متن کاملLarge-Amplitude Solitary Water Waves with Vorticity
We provide the first construction of exact solitary waves of large amplitude with an arbitrary distribution of vorticity. We use continuation to construct a global connected set of symmetric solitary waves of elevation, whose profiles decrease monotonically on either side of a central crest. This generalizes the classical result of Amick and Toland.
متن کاملLarge-amplitude internal solitary waves in a two-fluid model
We compute solitary wave solutions of a Hamiltonian model for large-amplitude long internal waves in a two-layer stratification. Computations are performed for values of the density and depth ratios close to oceanic conditions, and comparisons are made with solutions of both weakly and fully nonlinear models. It is shown that characteristic features of highly nonlinear solitary waves such as br...
متن کاملInteractions of large amplitude solitary waves in viscous fluid conduits
The free interface separating an exterior, viscous fluid from an intrusive conduit of buoyant, less viscous fluid is known to support strongly nonlinear solitary waves due to a balance between viscosity-induced dispersion and buoyancy-induced nonlinearity. The overtaking, pairwise interaction of weakly nonlinear solitary waves has been classified theoretically for the Korteweg–de Vries equation...
متن کاملObliquely propagating large amplitude solitary waves in charge neutral plasmas
This paper deals in a consistent way with the implications, for the existence of large amplitude stationary structures in general plasmas, of assuming strict charge neutrality between electrons and ions. With the limit of pair plasmas in mind, electron inertia is retained. Combining in a fluid dynamic treatment the conservation of mass, momentum and energy with strict charge neutrality has indi...
